BJP protests as cops stand guard

MUMBAI: As the storm over actor Salman Khan’s tweets on Yakub Menon’s hanging broke, the police moved quickly to deploy protection outside his apartment, Galaxy, in Bandra (West).

Late on Sunday night and early Monday, Khan, in a series of tweets, had said Tiger Memon, and not his brother Yakub, should be hanged for the 1993 blasts.

The police put up security outside the actor’s apartment from around 9am, even as Khan later retracted the tweets and also apologised.

The police contingent outside Khan’s residence consisted of two police vans, two jeeps, anti riot squads, women officers and constables.

Nikhil Vyas, general secretary of the BJP’S Yuva morcha, said Khan should apologise for his tweets, as they were an insult to the Indian judicial system He demanded that his bail in the 2002 hit and run case be cancelled, as he was supporting anti-national people.
